ON THE OCCASION OF BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY

Kim Jong IL’s Courage and Pluck

Not a few countries and nations around the world are falling prey to the highhanded and arbitrary actions of the United States and other imperialist countries, their national prestige and sovereignty being severely infringed and violated.
Peter Hayes, a reputed American expert of the Korean affairs, stated that a military option is now invalid to North Korea as it failed in the past, and will do in the future, too.
As he said, it cuts no ice with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. It is the steadfast attitude and stand of this country to point guns against rifles and counter a hard-line policy with a tougher one.
Such stance is inconceivable apart from the courage of Korean leader Kim Jong Il.
On April 5, 2009, the DPRK launched its second artificial satellite for peaceful purposes. The US manipulated the United Nations Security Council into adopting an illegal "presidential statement," taking issue with the DPRK's satellite launch.
Several countries had launched many artificial satellites into outer space, but their launches have never been called into question, except the DPRK's launch.
It was quite an unreasonable act of infringing upon the sovereignty of the DPRK and debasing the dignity of the Korean people. It was quite natural for the DPRK., which values independence more than others, to react resolutely against it.
The DPRK demanded the UNSC make an apology for having infringed upon its sovereignty and withdraw all the unreasonable and discriminative steps adopted against it.
It also warned that, in case the UNSC does not make an apology, it would be compelled to take additional self-defensive measures, including nuclear tests, in order to defend its supreme interests.
It finally conducted its second underground nuclear test on May 25. When the UNSC adopted on June 12 a "resolution on sanctions" against the DPRK finding faults with its nuclear test, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK issued a statement, strongly condemning and rejecting it and declaring that it would bolster up its nuclear deterrent and that an attempted blockade of any kind by the US and its followers would be regarded as an act of war and met with a decisive military response.
Counter "sanctions" with retaliation and "confrontation" with an all-out confrontation!" --this was the DPRK's reply. And it carried out its successive missile launch test in early July, proving that its declaration is by no means a lip service.
The international community looked in open-eyed wonder at the DPRK facing down the arrogant and arbitrary acts of great powers.
What struck the world with admiration was that the Korean leader carried on all his works as scheduled with composure, paying no heed to the new acute tensions created on the Korean peninsula.
He enjoyed a grand firework entertainment "Fireworks for Building a Great, Prosperous and Powerful Nation" held in Pyongyang in mid April and continued his field guidance trips to newly-built power stations, industrial establishments, cooperative farms and many other places across the country. He also had tens of thousands of servicepersons mobilized in building peaceful projects, including the construction of the Huichon Power Station.
The above-mentioned stories are only some pieces of facts showing the courage and pluck of Kim Jong IL.
