respected Marshal Kim Jong Un sent a letter "Our Social Sciences Should
Actively Contribute to Accomplishing the Cause of Modeling Whole Society on
Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism" to the scientists and officials of the Academy
of Social Sciences on December 1, the 60th anniversary of the academy.
Kim Jong Un in the letter said that President
Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il attached importance to social sciences and
paid deep attention to their development, thus developing them into
revolutionary and Juche-based social sciences conducive to accomplishing the
human cause of independence.
Under the wise guidance of Kim Il Sung and
Kim Jong Il and under their warm care, the Academy of Social Sciences has
turned into a reliable institution supporting the party in terms of ideas and
theories and a comprehensive center for studying social sciences, the letter
says, and goes on:
The Academy of Social Sciences has covered a
glorious history and made shining successes in the field of social sciences.
These are associated with the ardent loyalty and devoted efforts made by the
social scientists of the DPRK for the prosperity of the country and the
development of the social sciences of the country, while remaining faithful to
the party and the leader.
The basic duty facing the field of social sciences
at present is to further glorify the undying feats performed by Kim Il Sung and
Kim Jong Il in accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche, successfully
solve theoretical and practical matters arising in building a thriving
socialist nation and thus actively contribute to accomplishing the cause of
modeling whole society on Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism.
The letter indicates fundamental principles
and general orientation to be constantly maintained in building Juche-oriented
social sciences.
It continues:
In order for social sciences to make tangible
contributions to building a thriving nation as a powerful weapon of
revolutionary practices, it is necessary to effect a fresh and great turn in
the activities for studying social sciences as required by the times and the
developing revolution.
Our social sciences should carry forward the
revolutionary character and the glorious traditions as the social sciences
guided by Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism in name and reality.
The embodiment of Juche methodology, combination
of theories and revolutionary practices and the maintenance of the principle of
historicism--this is the most correct way of developing social sciences based
on the Juche idea and the principled requirements for ensuring achievements in
the study of social sciences.
The Academy of Social Sciences has an
important mission to defend the Workers' Party of Korea scientifically and
theoretically, help the party and the state in shaping policies and take the
lead in developing social sciences as a whole with great achievements in
scientific research.
It should explain in depth the truth,
originality, justice and tremendous vitality of Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism and
widely disseminate it at home and abroad.
It should properly carry on the work of
systematizing and theorizing in a scientific way the great successes and
valuable experience gained by the WPK and the Korean people in the
revolutionary struggle and construction, and handing them over to posterity.
The letter says that it is an important task
facing the Academy of Social Sciences to further develop all the fields of
social sciences, settling issues arising in the construction of a thriving
socialist nation and making them pay off in practice.

The social scientists should plant their feet

They should surely put all the social

Kim Jong Il conducted energetic ideological

social sciences including Juche philosophy and science of literature and arts on
the highest position.

terms of ideas and theories and a comprehensive center for studying social

The academy has positively defended the idea
and authority of the party and the leader, true to the party's policy of social
sciences at each stage and in each period of the developing Korean revolution,
enriched the mental and cultural assets of the country and the nation with the
precious achievements in scientific researches and thus contributed to
developing the WPK's ideas and theories and accomplishing the revolutionary
cause of Juche.
The scientists of the academy have powerfully
proved and widely explained and disseminated the greatness and immortal feats
of the three commanders of Mt. Paektu and the originality, validity and
vitality of Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism. They have also authored varieties of theoretical
books and dictionaries of national value, successfully translated and compiled
national classics, unearthed precious historic remains and relics, ascertained
their historical age and restored them to their original state, thereby putting
our social sciences on a high ground we can stand proud of in the eyes of the
world and giving full play to the advantages of the history and culture of the
