11
years have passed since the demise of great Comrade Kim Jong Il, who is a
peerless great man and the sun of world progressive people.
As
we are in December of yearning, we look back with deep emotion on the devotion
shown by Comrade Kim Jong Il to the development of friendly relations with
African countries.
58
years ago, in October 1964, Comrade Kim Jong Il personally met with the members
of party and government delegation of the Republic of Mali visiting our
country.
After
having inquired about their health and accommodations in detail, Comrade Kim
Jong Il gave valuable teachings on building a new society in Mali. He said the
DPRK and Mali are located at different latitudes and longitudes and have
different colors and customs, but the peoples of the two countries have same
desire to build a new society. He further said, in order to build an
independent country free from subordination, one must have the spirit of
self-reliance.
The
chief aide-de-camp of the president of Mali, after having received the precious
teachings from Comrade Kim Jong Il, said in excitement that the masters of Mali
are the Malians; so the construction of new Mali should be done by the efforts
of Malian people; they will take it as their political faith.
In
March 1984, when Comrade Kim Jong Il heard about the death of Guinean president
Sékou Touré who was a man of high repute to be called as “the father of
Africa”, he was so sorrowful and made specific arrangements for sending a
delegation of mourning.
Moreover,
when the Senegalese government requested us to provide assistance for the
construction of Monument of the Renaissance of Africa in its country, he
dispatched our able technicians to ensure that the monument be completed as the
best monument in the African continent as well as the symbol of peace.
Touched
by his noble sense of internationalist obligation, the Senegalese president
extended his heartfelt thanks to Comrade Kim Jong Il in his speech at the
unveiling ceremony of the monument held in April, 2010, on the 50th anniversary
of the independence.
Reflecting
the boundless admiration for Comrade Kim Jong Il who gave such sincere support
and encouragement to the African countries in their struggle to build a new
society, many high-ranking figures of political and social circles in Africa
respectfully conferred orders and medals on him and presented gifts to him.
Among them is also Didier Ratsiraka, president of the Democratic Republic of
Madagascar, who conferred “National Grand Cross Order” 1st Class, the highest
order of Madagascar, on Comrade Kim Jong Il during his visit to our country in
October, 1985.
The
immortal feats performed by Comrade Kim Jong Il for the development of
relations with the African countries will shine brilliantly through generations
and centuries, being cherished deep in our hearts.
We
will, in the future, too, invariably support the African people in their
efforts to reject foreign intervention, achieve national unity, and ensure
regional peace and stability, and will make active contribution to
strengthening and developing the relations of friendship and cooperation with
African countries as required by the new era.
