The
feeling of respect and reverence towards President Kim Il Sung, the veteran
statesman and outstanding leader of the world revolution, is cherished by the
Togolese people, too.
Gnassingbe
Eyadema, President of Togo was deeply moved by the unique Juche idea, noble
internationalist obligation and boundless magnanimity of President Kim Il Sung
when he first visited Pyongyang in September 1974.
Then
the Togolese President set forth as a priority in his country the elimination
of the colonial legacy remaining in politics, the economy and other fields and
the provision of stable life to the people by achieving sustainable economic
growth.
While
he was waging a struggle for it, he decided to visit Pyongyang again in the
beginning of the 1980s.
President
Eyadema and his party visited Pyongyang for the second time from September 29
to October 4, 1981 in order to receive teachings from President Kim Il Sung on
important issues arising in the building of new society. President Kim Il Sung
warmly welcomed them as goodwill envoys and gave careful attention so that they
did not feel any inconvenience during their visit.
During
the visit by the Togolese delegation to Pyongyang, President Kim Il Sung met
them as many as ten times and expounded on direction and method – the guideline
for Togo in the building of a new society. He said that if they improve seed
and the farming method in Africa which is so hot in weather, they can multiply
the production by several times and that the imperialists cannot act rashly in
regional countries if the members of ECOWAS grow good crops and solve the food
problem.
Even
after President Eyadema’s return to his country, he paid deep attention to the
Togolese people striving to build a new society and took measures to aid Togo
materially and morally in agriculture, construction, education, and other
fields. Those include building a Party school in Lomé that can admit 400
students as well as the dispatch of technical forces needed for irrigation
works.
That
is why President Eyadema cherished boundless gratitude and reverence for
President Kim Il Sung and said that he greatly admires and hails President Kim
Il Sung as his true brother and a great man of the world. He also highly
praised that the feats performed by President Kim Il Sung for human history
will remain forever.
The
friendly and cooperative relations between the DPRK and Togo were established
under the deep concern and friendship of the preceding leaders. Even though
centuries and generations have passed, it continues to develop on favorable
terms in line with the common aspirations of the two peoples and the demands of
the new era.
We
extend our support and solidarity to the people of Togo striving for the
country’s development and prosperity, and we will make active contributions to
further strengthen and develop the friendly and cooperative relations that
exist between our two peoples.

Se Il
