Nuclear Weapons
Are Not Anybody’s Monopoly
Nearly 70 years
have passed since the appearance of nuclear weapons on the earth. The past
years were the days when the United States had wielded nukes to infringe upon
the sovereign rights and dignity of other countries.
But the times
have changed. Today, nuclear weapons are no longer exclusive property of any
special state.
Monopoly
of Nukes Is Intolerable
From the
beginning of their appearance, conscientious and intellectual people of the
world did not tolerate a monopoly of nukes by anybody. During World War II, the
scientists succeeded in manufacturing the world’s first atomic bomb to save
mankind from the Hitlerites who were hell-bent on developing “special weapons.”
Feeling apprehensive about the US attempt to exploit the atomic bomb to realize
its ambition of world supremacy, they tried hard to hand over the know-how of
its manufacture to the former Soviet Union after WWII.
As they had
planned, the US monopoly of nukes did not last long as the former Soviet Union
successfully carried out its nuclear test, forming a nuclear equilibrium across
the world. The two countries had been engaged in fierce struggles for supremacy
for several decades ever since the end of World War II, but those were confined
to a cold war because both were nuclear powers.
However, the end
of the cold war began to harass the world with nuclear threat.
The US made
public the “list of preemptive nuclear strikes” which included the countries
that were recalcitrant to its realization of world supremacy, and unleashed the
wars of aggression in the Balkan, Middle East and other regions of the world,
trampling upon sovereignty of several countries and nations. But no country
stood against the arbitrariness and tyranny of the US, which was posing itself
as the “only superpower” after the collapse of the former Soviet Union and
boasting of its mightiness and absolute nuclear edge. There were other nuclear
states in the world, but they could be no match for the US in regard of the
number of nukes and political will.
It was urgently
needed to oppose a nuclear monopoly of a specified country in keeping with the
requirements of the new times.
Returning
Nuclear Attack for Nuclear Blackmail
It is the
Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, which is neither a premier nuclear state
nor a great power, but a small country in the East, that has faced up to the US
nuclear monopoly and blackmail.
The DPRK made a
firm resolve to confront those who were wielding nukes with nukes. Its decision
proved correct by the present realities witnessed in Iraq, Libya and other
countries.
It has suffered
the severest and the most tenacious nuclear threats by the US for over 60
years.
In November 1950
during the Korean war, US President Truman said at a press interview that the
use of atomic bombs on Korea was under consideration. MacArthur, commander of
the US Far East Forces, also confessed that the US had planned to drop 30 or 50
A-bombs in the Korean-Chinese frontiers in December that year.
After the war
the US continued to threaten Korea with nukes. While declaring in July 1957
that it would give up the implementation of the Korean Armistice Agreement
which stipulates that the introduction into Korea of reinforcing combat
aircraft, armoured vehicles, weapons and ammunition should be ceased, the US
announced it would buckle down to arming its troops stationed in south Korea
with nukes. A variety of tactical nuclear weapons the US shipped into and
deployed in south Korea numbered over 1 700. In this way, south Korea has turned
into an arsenal of nuclear weapons and a nuclear outpost that ranks 1st
in the concentrated rate of nuclear weapons of the world.
Entering the new
century, the US nuclear threat reached extreme. It even went to the lengths to
put the DPRK on the list of preemptive nuclear strikes and upgraded its nuclear
war games waged in and around the Korean peninsula; Team Spirit, Focus Retina, Ulji Freedom Guardian and other nuclear
war games aimed at a preemptive nuclear strike were staged every year and the
“OPLAN 5027” and “OPLAN 5029” were made public.
The recent joint
military drills such as Key Resolve
and Foal Eagle were more perilous on
the part of the character, scale and method. Nuclear capable B-52 strategic and
B-2A stealth bombers ran practice bombing sorties over south Korea from the US
mainland, the first of its kind. The nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and
submarines were deployed in the waters off the Korean peninsula and even the
troops of the US allies that had taken part in the Korean war were involved in
the games.
The DPRK could
not but make a final decision to respond to the US nuclear blackmail with a
merciless nuclear attack and its aggressive war with a righteous war for
national reunification.
The Korean
service personnel and people have turned out in an all-out showdown to blow up
without a trace the US military bases in south Korea, Japan and its mainland
with a merciless nuclear strike, should the enemy ignite a war.
The DPRK while
confronting the US for decades, has strengthened its national defence
capabilities in every way, and prepared its self-defensive nuclear deterrent to
cope with the latter’s extreme nuclear threat. It has acquired nuclear
capabilities and strategic rocket and satellite technology.
Now the country
with an inexhaustible strength is out in a decisive battle to defend its
sovereignty.
Most recently,
it has performed the target strike by super-precision drone and the
interception practice of an imaginary Tomahawk missile by self-propelled
missiles and firing drill of a long-range artillery force to cope with the US
reckless war games, thus showcasing its might and will to reduce to a sea of
fire the land of the US, the world’s greatest nuclear magazine, in an instant.
It is quite
unbelievable reality that the US, which has threatened other countries with
nukes for several decades, has to clamour for its mainland-defensive strategy
to protect itself from nuclear attack by other country.
Gone are the
days when the US threatened the DPRK with nuclear weapons.
Nuclear weapons
are no more its monopoly.
Kim Jong Un Visits Fishery Station under KPA
Unit
Pyongyang, May 27 (KCNA) --
Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Un, first secretary of
the Workers' Party of Korea and first chairman of the National Defence
Commission of the DPRK, provided field guidance to the August 25 Fishery
Station under KPA Unit 313.
He shook hands of commanding officers of the unit and officials of the fishery station present to greet him one by one and got aboard a fishing boat.
He said that the fishery station should catch a lot of fishes with good fishing boats and supply the soldiers on the forefront with them all the year round so that the fishing boats provided by the Party may pay off profusely. He went down to an engine room and learned in detail about its arrangement, its consumption of fuel and H.P.
Going round the front and middle cabins, he underscored the need to arrange them well so that its crew may not feel any inconvenience in their living. He told the commanding officers and officials an experience gained by a fishery base in effectively using spent fuel, underscoring the need to make sure that fishermen can have rest in a warm place as their hands are wet in cold water of rough sea.
He said that each fishing boat should haul 1 000 tons of fishes every year, telling them to write a letter to the Supreme Commander when they honor their plan.
A drive for cultivating soybean is now under way in the People's Army, he noted, calling for successfully conducting both soybean growing and fishing operations to provide the soldiers with soybean and fishes all the year round.
When he was requested to name the fishing boat by KPA officers and officials of the fishery station, he proposed naming it "maple" symbolic of autumn.
He went round the monument to the field guidance provided by leader Kim Jong Il to the fishery station, giving it important instructions on August 25, 1973, and the room dedicated to the history of the fishery station.
He made the rounds of the storehouse of fishing tackle and the refrigerating chamber of the station.
He called on the fishery station to undertake aquaculture on a large scale while catching a lot of fishes in order to boost aquatic products, adding that it is necessary to cultivate seaweed, tangle, mussel, etc. in a big way.
He said he visited the supply base on the east coast under KPA Unit 639 a few days ago where he saw it providing good supply service and catching a lot of fishes by putting fishing operations on a scientific basis, urging them to follow the working style and experience of the officials at that unit.
He had a photo session with the officials and employees of the fishery station.
He was accompanied by Choe Ryong Hae, Kim Kyok Sik, Jang Jong Nam, Ri Yong Gil, Son Chol Ju, Ryom Chol Song, Jon Chang Bok, Yun Tong Hyon, Jo Kyong Chol, An Ji Yong, Kim Su Gil and Hwang Pyong So. -0-

CPRK Spokesman Urges S. Korean Authorities to
Face Up to Trend of Times
Pyongyang, May 28 (KCNA) -- The south
Korean authorities in a statement of the Ministry of Unification and press
briefing on Monday totally declined the DPRK's offer for a joint event to mark
June 15, saying that "its sincerity is doubtful," "it is to
create discord among those in the south" and that "it seeks a
political aim".
They also openly declared the stand not to allow south Korean businessmen's visit to the Kaesong Industrial Zone (KIZ), trumpeting about "south-north authorities' dialogue for carrying out of raw and other materials and finished products."
Worse still, they urged the DPRK to control "words and deeds," speaking ill of its due criticism of the reckless remarks made by the Chongwadae chief hurting the dignity of the supreme leadership of the DPRK and its new line on simultaneously pushing forward economic construction and the building of nuclear force.
The spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea in a statement on Tuesday termed this a shameless challenge to the public opinion at home and abroad for detente and improvement of inter-Korean relations and a grave provocation against the DPRK as it revealed the anti-reunification moves for confrontation.
The poor sophism of the south Korean authorities and their moves of disallowing the north-south joint events for reunification are an unpardonable insult to the mindset of the south Korean people and the aspiration of fellow countrymen as they fully brought to light their true colors as anti-reunification elements denying the north-south joint declarations and disliking reconciliation and unity, the statement said, and went on:
The reckless remarks made by the south Korean authorities go to fully prove that they do not want improvement of inter-Korean relations, dialogue and detente and that the puppet group has nothing but a sinister intention to continue resorting to the moves for confrontation with the DPRK in league with the U.S.
It is the last-ditch efforts of those upset by the failure of their scheme of anti-DPRK cooperation due to the rapidly changing situation in the surrounding areas.
The puppet group is seriously mistaken if it thinks its trick will help it get something, getting rid of a tight corner.
The south Korean authorities should stop a useless wordplay and immediately allow organizations of the south side to participate in the June 15 joint events.
If they are concerned about "contradiction among south Koreans", they can take part in the reunification events themselves.
They should also open the way for businessmen to visit the KIZ.
We have already consented to the businessmen's visit to the KIZ and if they enter it, we are ready to hold any discussion on the normalization of the KIZ including the issue of carrying out products.
The south Korean authorities do not need to worry about their safety.
If they still do not feel reassured, they may send with them members of the Committee for Operating the Kaesong Industrial Zone.
The south Korean authorities would be well advised to clearly face up to the trend of the times and the people's mindset and opt for a correct way, though belatedly.

Kim Jong Un Visits Songdowon International
Children's Camp
Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) --
Marshal Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, first
chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and supreme commander
of the Korean People's Army, provided field guidance to the Songdowon
International Children's Camp.
He looked round the statue of President Kim Il Sung standing in the compound of the camp.
He called the camp a historic place. Recollecting that Kim Il Sung personally chose the site of the camp in 1959, the postwar period, and made sure that it was built, he added that in the subsequent period leader Kim Jong Il saw to it that it was reconstructed as the Songdowon International Children's Camp and visited it in March, 1993 when the country was in a grave situation.
He said it is the firm determination of the WPK to successfully remodel the camp closely associated with the leadership exploits of the great Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il as required by the new century.
He proposed erecting statues of the Generalissimos among children while undertaking the project in order to convey their noble love for future and posterity down through generations.
He specified instructions for remodeling the camp, going round the camp building, the International Friendship Children's Hall and other places of the camp visited by Kim Jong Il on March 30, 1993.
He looked round some bedrooms including Room 221 visited by Kim Jong Il and told officials to provide them with better furniture and TV sets.
He underscored the need to decorate walls of rooms with wallpapers beautiful in color and pattern to suit children's minds and take thorough measures for heating and electricity so that they may not feel any inconvenience in their camping.
Looking round the lobby of the camp building, he said that it is 20 years old but it still looks impeccable in architectural beauty as Kim Jong Il led the designing and construction of the camp with loving care.
Going round the International Friendship Children's Hall, he stressed the need to set up a guide board written in foreign languages so that it may be convenient to children from various countries of the world.
At the room for disseminating knowledge about seas, he gave an instruction to provide it with varieties of specimen so that campers may acquire not only knowledge about seas but that about animals and plants.
He said that the camp should be operated in winter, too, in the future so that children may enjoy skiing at the Masik Pass Skiing Ground now under construction.
Calling at the wading pool and boating site, he said he would send modern wading equipment and told officials to spruce them up as well as they please.
Going round the playground, he called for building a running track and covering the football field with artificial turf and providing new facilities for sports events such as volleyball and basketball.
He proposed displaying slogans "We Are the Happiest in the World!" and "General Goes to Front While Children Go to Camp!" which convey the loving care of the Generalissimos for posterity.
Visiting the beach, he underscored the need to build dressing rooms and diving towers, provide modern shower equipment and take necessary measures for preventing sand from piling up there.
He took measures for building a new ground for education at the camp and paving its sidewalks again, adding that he would send vehicles needed for its management and operation.
He was accompanied by Choe Hwi, first vice department director of the WPK Central Committee, and Pak Thae Song and Ma Won Chun, vice department directors of the WPK Central Committee. -0-

Kim Jong Un Visits Songdowon Youth Open-air
Theatre
Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) --
Marshal Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, first
chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and supreme commander
of the Korean People's Army, provided field guidance to the Songdowon Youth
Open-air Theatre.
He looked round the room dedicated to the history of the theatre.
He recalled the words of leader Kim Jong Il that he would watch a performance of the State Merited Chorus with citizens of Wonsan City there if the seating capacity of the theatre would be increased to 5 000, adding that he could not keep the promise.
Noting that the theatre is closely associated with the profound loving care of the great Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il for the people, he underscored the need to manage the theatre better and put its operation on a regular basis so as to eternally glorify their exploits.
As the room dedicated to the history of the theatre is the place for educating visitors, it should be arranged and furnished well so that many working people, youth and students may visit it, he said.
He went round various places of the theatre.
Being seated without reserve on the chair used by audience, he examined its height and told officials to readjust the chairs in such a way as to make them convenient to the audience.
Watching the stage roof of ball truss style, he said that the stage was roofless in the past but it was newly built well as instructed by Kim Jong Il. The stage looks nice after its remodeling, he added.
After learning about how the open-air theatre is used, he underlined the need to ensure that songs and dances and exciting agitation are always presented there. He said he would spare time to watch an art performance at the theatre together with Wonsan citizens.
He instructed the Kangwon Provincial Committee of the WPK and working people's organizations in the province including the provincial committee of the youth league to pay deep attention to the management and operation of the open-air theatre so that it may creditably discharge its mission.
Calling for successfully remodeling the open-air theatre as a fashionable one which will well match its environment and remain impeccable in the distant future, he indicated the tasks and ways to do so.
He had a photo session with the employees of the open-air theatre.
He was accompanied by Choe Hwi, first vice department director of the WPK Central Committee, and Pak Thae Song and Ma Won Chun, vice department directors of the WPK Central Committee.
