MIRACLE ON MASIK PASS

Masik Pass in the eastern part of Korea is suitable for building a ski resort. It snows much there from November to next March, a long period for ski runs. Alpine ski grounds at the height of several thousand metres above sea level are known in general to be hard for trees to grow and for man to breathe. The summit of the Masik Pass rises 1 360 m above sea level; there are many trees and the oxygen content is high. There is a famous spring there, and it is easy of access with the Pyongyang-Wonsan Tourist Motorway nearby.

Kim Jong Un, supreme leader of the country, proposed building a ski resort in the area of the pass. Saying that we should build a ski resort on the pass for the people which is worthy of pride in the eyes of the world, he entrusted the project to the Korean People’s Army.

On receiving his order, the soldier-builders broke the ground on Masik Pass, which is so named after the legendary tale that the slopes were so steep that even horses had to scale them after taking a rest. They built in less than one year since the beginning of the project primary- , middle- and high-level ski runs nearly 110 000 metres long in total and 40 to 120 metres wide in an area of hundreds of thousands of square metres.

Kim Jong Un visited the construction site in late May this year, spoke highly of the feats of the soldier-builders who finished in less than a year nearly half the amount of the gigantic project, which others would not be able to implement even within ten years. And he pointed out the need to step up the construction in a sweeping way so as to open the ski resort to public this winter, and set forth the tasks and ways for its implementation. A few days later, he sent an appeal, in which he instructed that the project should be finished without fail within this year by creating the Masikryong speed by dint of the great army-people unity.

His appeal brought about new, miraculous achievements and innovations at the construction site. Upholding the slogan, “Let us finish the construction of the Masikryong Ski Resort unconditionally within this year by waging an all-out onward campaign, an all-out death-defying campaign!” the soldier-builders are accelerating the project at double the speed of last year: construction of 40 structures, such as ski runs, cable way, hotel, service and accommodating structures, underground car park, heliport, skating rink, swimming pool and road, and rezoning of the area are now being under way in a three-dimensional way day and night; the construction site is reminiscent of a military campaign site.

Before long a world-class ski resort will make its appearance on Masik Pass.

IN THE FLAMES OF CREATING THE MASIKRYONG SPEED

The creation of the Masikryong speed is not confined to the construction site of the ski resort. It is Kim Jong Un’s intention to usher in a fresh heyday on all the fronts of socialist construction by bringing about a great leap and great innovations throughout the country.

The soldiers and people, who are building a large-scale stockbreeding base on Sepho tableland in the eastern part of the country according to his proposal and plan, sent to the working people across the country a letter, calling on them to implement to the letter the appeal of Kim Jong Un for creating the Masikryong speed. The letter reads in part: Let us create the speed of the grand army-people march of Songun Korea keeping pace with the Masikryong speed and thus usher in a great heyday in Kim Jong Un’s era!

In response to this letter, mass rallies were held throughout the country.

In the flames of creating the speed, innovations are being made day after day in the country. Socialist emulation drives are launched between the different sectors of the national economy, such as metal, coal, power and machine industries and rail transport, and many factories and enterprises are surpassing the records of their peak production years. The light-industry factories are running at full capacity, producing a variety of foodstuffs and daily necessaries needed for the people’s living, while the agricultural sector is striving to hit the highest-ever grain yield target.

As of the end of June, the plateau over 8 000 hectares of land were reclaimed on Sepho tableland, and 10 000 hectares of natural grassland were rezoned. The shock brigaders are all out to finish the rezoning of grassland of 50 000 hectares and the building of the livestock administrative centres without fail within this year.

A bright prospect of people enjoying all the benefits of socialism is visible as many modern buildings are being built across the country and towns and villages are turning into fairylands.

In July Kim Jong Un visited the apartment houses for scientists which are now under construction in a characteristic way in a suburb of Pyongyang. Saying that it was a great success that multi-storeyed apartment houses of 1 000 flats and various public and service establishments had been built in a few months, he noted that this is the Masikryong speed, which the Workers’ Party of Korea demands today.
