A
spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry gave the following answer to a question
put by KCNA on Saturday as regards the fact that the secretary general of the
United Nations claimed as if the cause of escalated tension on the Korean
peninsula lies with the DPRK:
Recently,
the UN secretary general, at a press conference on the issue of the Korean
peninsula, made an absurd remark that the aggravation of tension on the
peninsula was caused by the “nuclear and missile development” of the DPRK.
His
remark is no more than a revelation of his ignorance on the essence of the
nuclear issue of the Korean peninsula.
To
make it clear, the root cause of the nuclear issue and the vicious cycle of
aggravation of situation on the Korean peninsula is the U.S. hostile policy and
its nuclear threats against the DPRK.
It
is ridiculous for the UN secretary general to talk about taking a fair stand in
resolving the issue of the Korean peninsula while he cannot say a word to the
U.S. which is actually driving the situation on the Korean peninsula to the
extreme pitch.
It
is none other than the U.S that caused all the trouble by deploying nuclear
strategic assets on the Korean peninsula and, hence, in order to defuse the
tension and prevent reckless military clash in and around the peninsula, the
U.S. should first make the right decision and substantiate it through action.
The
DPRK will, under no circumstances, flinch an inch from the road of bolstering
up the nuclear force, the road chosen by itself, unless the nuclear threat of
the U.S. and its hostile policy toward the DPRK are thoroughly eradicated.

Spokesman Denounces U.S. State Department’s “2016 International Religious
Freedom Report”
A
spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK gave the following answer to a
question raised by KCNA Thursday as regards the fact that the U.S. State
Department faulted the DPRK in its “2016 International Religious Freedom
Report”:
In
the report on August 15 the U.S. State Department slandered the DPRK again.
The
rhetoric about “religious freedom” touted by the U.S. is a means for creating
pretexts for aggression and interference in sovereign states and for this it is
denounced and rejected by many countries around the world.
The
report which found fault with the DPRK does not deserve even a passing note as
it is a desperate effort of those driven into a tight corner in the political
and military stand-off with the DPRK.
What
can never be tolerated is that the report slandered the Juche idea, the eternal
guiding idea of the Workers’ Party of Korea, and the socialist system, the
lifeline of the Korean people.
The
reality in which the DPRK is enjoying the new improvement of the overall state
might and strategic position despite the unprecedented sanctions and pressure
is a demonstration of the validity and vitality of the great Juche idea and
Korean-style socialist system.
The
U.S. provocative acts coming from all directions even over the religious issue
of the DPRK at a time when the confrontation between the DPRK and the U.S. has
been strained to the extremes will incur a due price.
The
U.S. had better immediately stop arrogant provocative acts and unilateral
pressure on the DPRK but pay heed to the warning that it should no longer
provoke the DPRK.
