Kim Jong Un Syndrome

Kim Jong Un, supreme leader of the DPRK, is now in the spotlight of the international community.

                                                       Attention Unprecedented in History

 “The youngest leader who attracted the greatest attention in the shortest span of time in history”.this is a comment on Kim Jong Un by the world mass media.

As soon as he made his official appearance in the political arena with his election as vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea at its third conference in September 2010, he was catapulted to the worldwide fame. Amidst a rush of news on it, the CNN put him on the top ten list for 2010.

In 2012, too, the world major media nominated him as a “man noteworthy in the year.” The Time, a noted weekly of the United States, gave him a front-cover prominence in its last issue of February.

Google found that the news on Kim Jong Un in the world English press amounted to 67.4 million pieces, 230 000 pieces an hour, for ten days after the demise of Chairman Kim Jong Il of the DPRK National Defence Commission in December last year. If the news given by the non-English press are added, the figure would be beyond imagination. This all shows how much the international community is interested in him.

His speech delivered at the military parade held in celebration of the centenary of the birth of President Kim Il Sung on April 15 evoked great repercussions in the world press.

 “Kim Jong Un made the first public address,” “Kim Jong Un’s era started in Korea”.under such headlines, about 12 000 publications and broadcasts were involved in a war of news coverage on him, attracting hundreds of millions of audience.

The mass media attached big importance to each word and expression of his speech, saying that it is the first time to hear his live voice. According to The New York Times the Korean supreme leader’s delivering of vocal address was an extraordinary event and it was a demonstration of ability of the new Korean leadership, youthful and vigorous.

Al-Jazeera of Qatar, BBC of Britain, ABC of Australia, NHK of Japan and other TV and broadcasting stations televised the scenes of the Korean soldiers and people responding with stormy cheers to his appeal “Forward towards final victory!”

The speech delivered by Kim Jong Un was the political programme of the new leadership of Korea and a declaration of its grand starting, the world mass media noted, and emphasized that the future of Korea led by the young leader is promising.

Ardent Reverence

The world progressives hold Kim Jong Un as the great heir to the ideas and cause of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il, pioneers and leaders of the cause of global independence.

At the World Congress on the Juche Idea held in April in Pyongyang the participants warmly congratulated Kim Jong Un for his election as the First Secretary of the WPK and declared that they would remain faithful to the ideology and leadership of Kim Jong Un, great successor to the cause of independence.

At the International Festival in celebration of the centenary of the birth of President Kim Il Sung held in Pyongyang a few days after the world congress the participants voiced that the prospect of the cause of global independence is bright as it is led by Kim Jong Un, who has inherited the outstanding ideas, leadership ability and virtues of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.

A paragraph of the appeal adopted at the festival reads:

The orbit of independence illuminated by the Sun (it means Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.Tr.) is invariable and so firm is the faith of the world progressive peoples to accomplish the cause of independence of mankind. Let us vigorously expedite the cause of global independence by entrusting the bright future of mankind to Kim Jong Un who carries forward the cause of the Sun with credit.

The international community expresses boundless reverence for Kim Jong Un.

On the occasion of the centenary of the birth of President Kim Il Sung he was awarded prizes, orders, medals and honorary titles and presented with gifts and congratulatory banners, more than 200 pieces in all.

The African Peace Foundation awarded Peace Prize and its diploma to Kim Jong Un who is making a great contribution to defending world peace by dint of Songun politics.

An Italian presented him with a gift, a glass craftwork “Photometre,” saying; Small metal chips in it go round by the light. Korea, small as it may be, moves the world at the centre of its politics by great strength. As sunlight is motive power for the measuring instrument, so is Kim Jong Un for the world.

Figures in political and social circles and international organizations created artistic works in his praises.

First vice-chairman of the Cuban committee for support of Korea’s reunification and many other personages composed poems, titled, “A new star appeared over Korea,” “Glory to you, Kim Jong Un!” and “Keeping step with General Kim Jong Un.”
