Kim Jong Un and reality of DPRK

Three years have passed since Kim Jong Un was elected Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on June 29, 2016.
The three years, which can be called a moment in the current of history, witnessed the creation of a new history.
Kim Jong Un has changed the strategic landscape of the world. The former landscape, focused on great powers, was thought to be eternal.
An end was put to it in late 2017; the DPRK attained the status of a strategic nation.
Kim Jong Un has remarkably strengthened the country’s political and military might, the fundamental aspect of the national power of the country.
He has ensured that the country’s socialist system turned into one that makes selfless, devoted efforts for the well-being of the people, that embodies the people-first principle. When the northern areas in North Hamgyong Province were hit by floods, he enlisted all the forces of the state so as to build nearly 12 thousand houses in just over two months, thus providing the flood victims with better living conditions. Linking their destiny with the socialist system, the Korean people are rallied firmly behind him.
Kim Jong Un worked hard to build up the country’s defence capabilities. The previous three years was a period when the sanctions imposed by hostile forces went to extremes; the Korean people had to face unprecedented ordeals and difficulties. For a country which has a small territory and population and, worse still, which is under harsh sanctions, it is not easy to develop strategic weapons, which are known to be possessed by only great powers. However, braving all the trials, the country finally succeeded in possessing powerful war deterrent in late 2017. That meant no other country would dare ignite a war against it.
Having attained the strategic position which has been a monopoly of great powers in the past and ensuring strategic balance in the northeast Asian region with the Korean peninsula at its centre, the DPRK has become able to render a great contribution to global peace.
Kim Jong Un changed the current on the Korean peninsula from that of war and confrontation to peace.
The Korean peninsula was teetering on the brink of war in the whole year of 2017. When the whole world was watching the developments on the peninsula, Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, delivered the New Year Address for 2018. He put forward unusual proposals for creating a peaceful atmosphere on the peninsula. Thanks to his proactive proposal and efforts, several rounds of north-south summit were held, with the result that the Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Reunification of the Korean Peninsula and September Pyongyang Joint Declaration were adopted.
In order to put an end to the extremely hostile relations between the DPRK and the US, which had persisted for the longest period on the earth, and to shape a fine future of peace and security of the world in conformity with the interests of the peoples of the two countries, Kim Jong Un met the US president. The historic joint statement of the Singapore summit signed on June 12, 2018 laid a foundation for promoting the development of new DPRK-US relations, and peace, prosperity and security on the Korean peninsula and the rest of the world.
With regard to these world-startling, historic events, specialists and observers of the world acknowledged the leading role played by Kim Jong Un, and recognized that the situation on and around the Korean peninsula develops true to the DPRK’s will.
In December 2018, a co-head of the nuclear policy programme of the US think-tank, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, said that the Kim Jong Un’s statement of his stand would exert a great influence on the world. Another US think-tank, American Enterprise Institute for Policy Research, wrote on its website that the atmosphere of detente on the Korean peninsula had been created by the DPRK; to look back, when negotiations would be held, who would take part in them and which issues would be discussed there have all been decided by the DPRK. … The future confrontation will be fought according to the decision of its leader.
