NIGERIANS CELEBRATE THE EIGHTIETH BIRTH DAY OF H.E. KIM JONG IL


On Monday 14th February, 2022, Nigerians from all works of life converged at the auditorium of the Faculty of Social Science, University of Abuja to honour President Kim Jong Il who would have turn eighty years old on the 16th of February, 2022.

The occasion had the Vice Chancellor of the Great University of Abuja, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah as special guest of honour and he was represented by his Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. C.B.I. Alawa; the ambassador of the DPR of Korea, H.E. Jan Tong Chol as co-special guest of honour, The Dean, Faculty of Social Science, Professor Gobna Wafure as guest of honour, the National Chairman of the Nigerian National Committee on the Study of Kimilsungism and Kimjongilism, Prof. Alhassan Mamman Muhammad, as chief host; and the Head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations, Prof. Ghali Shariff, as co-chief host. Furthermore, the Director of the Centre for Asian Studies was present.

In attendance were University Professors such as: Prof. Siyan Peters, former Dean, Faculty of Social Science, University of Abuja; Prof. Yusuf Ali Zoaka, former Dean, Faculty of Social Science, University of Abuja; Prof. Sule Magaji; Prof. Jacob N. James, former Head of the Department of   Political Science and International Relations, Assoc. Prof. Sunday Ishaya served as the master of ceremony, other senior lecturers, representatives of registered political parties in Nigeria, Honourable Berminas Yilkes represented the Nigeria DPR of Korea Friendship Association, students of the University of Abuja and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) led other media organisations in covering the event.

The event commenced with the national anthem of both countries after which the M.C., Assoc. Prof. Sunday Ishaya, introduce guests and the purpose of the gathering. The National Chairman of the Nigerian National Committee on the Study of Kimilsungism and Kimjongilism, Prof. Alhassan Mamman Muhammad, gave his opening speech which was followed by that of the representative of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. C.B.I. Alawa. The ambassador of the DPR of Korea, H.E. Jan Tong Chol’s speech followed immediately. Thereafter, good will messages followed.

The second session saw the presentation of two papers: The Korean Peninsula Re-unification: Prospects and Challenges, presented by the Nigerian National Committee on the Study of Kimilsungism and Kimjongilism, Prof. Alhassan Mamman Muhammad; the second paper entitled, The Immortal Exploits of H.E. Kim Jong Il, was presented by Dr. Abdulrahman Habu Hamisu of the Department of   Political Science and International Relations.

After the two presentations, there was a questions and answers session which was followed by group photograph with special guests and the ambassador and that of the ambassador with students followed. The photo shoot was followed by book exhibition. The books on exhibition were on the works of H.E Comrade Kim Jong Il.
