KIM JONG UN GIVES FIELD GUIDANCE TO CONSTRUCTION SITE OF MAY 27 FISHERY STATION
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, first chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, gave field guidance to the construction site of the May 27 Fishery Station.
The May 27 Fishery Station now under construction in an east coastal area on the personal initiative of Kim Jong Un will be the first modern pelagic fishery station to be built amid the drive for making a new history of big fish hauls.
Going round the construction site, he learnt in detail about the progress made in the project and gave precious instructions for it.
He recalled that President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il instructed that fishing operations should be conducted in the near and far-off seas while going out and coming back and pelagic fishing should be developed. It is necessary to carry out their behests for supplying much more fishes to the service personnel and people, he stressed, and went on:
"It is important to build well necessary facilities for the May 27 Fishery Station as it is a base for fishing operations by fleets of pelagic fishing boats and fish storing and processing.
In order to successfully build the fishery station it is necessary to build well a wharf capable of mooring several big boats alongside, breakwater and various kinds of facilities for sufficiently discharging, storing and processing fishes and all other facilities for the work and living of fishermen so that they may be impeccable even in distant future."
Underscoring the need to push forward the construction project in a three dimensional manner in order to step up it, he personally solved the problems arising in the project including the supply of materials.
He gave an instruction to meticulously organize from now the work for laying a strong material and technological foundation for the station and establishing the pelagic fishing method of Korean style so that it may start pelagic fishing soon after the construction is over.
He noted that the enlarged meeting of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea discussed and decided on the issue related to the construction of the May 27 Fishery Station while discussing important strategic matters concerning national defence as the work for decisively boosting the nation's fishing industry is an important one for making the diet of the people more affluent and improving the supply service to the service personnel for the purpose of rounding off the combat preparations of the KPA.
Underlining the need to reinforce construction forces to finish the construction of the station in the best quality within the date set by the party, he said that he would issue an order of the KPA Supreme Commander to large combined units of the KPA to form strong construction forces and dispatch them to the construction site.

There may be a lot of bottlenecks and difficulties in building a modern pelagic fishery station, but he felt reassured as the project has been assigned to the KPA, a standard-bearer and shock force in implementing the party's idea and defending its policies, he said, calling for successfully and unconditionally winding up the project till the 70th founding anniversary of the party to demonstrate once again the fighting capability of the KPA before the world.
KIM JONG UN INSPECTS SIN ISLET DEFENCE COMPANY OF KPA
Pyongyang, March 12 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and first chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, inspected the Sin Islet Defence Company standing guard over a forward post off the East Coast of the DPRK.
He went round the monument to the field guidance erected to convey to posterity the undying feat leader Kim Jong Il performed by visiting the company in July, 2005. He recollected with deep emotion the unforgettable day Kim Jong Il visited the company at dawn.
Watching the thick woodland on the islet and fruit trees of various species around the barracks, he said with great satisfaction that the islet was full of trees, it would be very nice to see it in spring or summer and the company successfully turned it into a thick woodland, greenery and orchard as intended by the Party Central Committee. He went round a combined firepower training room to learn in detail about the training.
He said that the company was defending the strategically very important islet. Underscoring the necessity to deploy more powerful firepower striking means on the islet in order to thoroughly implement the party's military strategic policy on completely wiping out in a sea the enemies coming in attack from waters, he specified issues related to the deployment of firepower striking means, positional facilities and firepower coordination with nearby posts and the fulfillment of its firepower duty.
He went round bedroom, room dedicated to education, wash-cum-bath room, mess hall, bean store, pen and greenhouse without a heating system to take warm care of the living of the service personnel as their real father would do. Learning in detail about the living of servicemen's families, he repeatedly told officers to take warmer care of them on the islet who are always making a lot of efforts to help their husbands in the revolutionary work far away from the land.
Saying that success in military and political affairs depends on the officers of the relevant unit, he said he was very satisfied with the work style and zeal of the commanding officers of the company there. He reposed trust in them by hoping that they would continue do their work well in the future, too.
He gave the company a pair of binoculars and automatic rifle as gifts and had a photo session with its servicemen and their families, expressing expectation and belief that they would turn the company, an outpost in the East Sea adjoining the yard of the Party Central Committee, into an invulnerable fortress like the coastal battery which fought on Wolmi Island.

He was accompanied by Kim Yo Jong, vice department director of the Central Committee of the WPK.
Paradigm of Internationalism
“Comrade Kim Il Sung is a genuine proletarian internationalist and a paradigm of communist movement, who defended our Soviet Union at the cost of the blood, with arms, from the aggression of the imperialists in the East.” This was a passage from the congratulatory message made by Iosif Stalin of the former Soviet Union, proposing a toast to President Kim Il Sung (1912-1994) on his official visit to Russia in 1949 with the DPRK government delegation.
Kim Il Sung supported with arms the Soviet Union, first socialist state in the world, under the slogan “Let us defend the Soviet Union with arms!” while waging an arduous armed struggle against the Japanese imperialists to liberate his country from their military occupation, without state backing and support from regular armed forces. When the Japanese imperialists provoked armed conflicts against the Soviet Union, including the incidents of Lake Khasan and Khalkin-Gol in 1938 and 1939 respectively, Kim Il Sung saw that the KPRA units launched harassment operations in support of the Soviet Union behind the enemy lines, inflicting great damage on the enemy’s manpower and war materiel and frustrating military transport. By doing so, he rendered great service to the victory of the Soviet army. Kim Il Sung gave active support to Chinese revolutionaries in their anti-Japanese war.
Chen Lei, one of commanding officers of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Allied Army (NAJAA), wrote in his memoirs:
“As is well known across the world, Comrade Kim Il Sung’s devotion to the Chinese revolution and people in the whole course of the anti-Japanese revolution was so genuine that we should offer our thousand thanks. President Kim Il Sung, while waging bravely armed struggle against the Japanese imperialists and to liberate the lost country, established brotherly ties with senior officers of the NAJAA and spared no efforts to assist Chinese revolution. Sometimes he unhesitatingly sent commanding officers and soldiers he had trained with loving care and such aid materials as ammunition and uniforms, though it caused difficulty to him.”
Even after Korea’s liberation Kim Il Sung gave unstinted material and spiritual assistance to the Chinese revolutionaries in their struggle against Jiang Jieshi’s Kuomintang army, thus making a decisive contribution to their efforts to overcome the difficulties and create favourable circumstances in Northeast China.
Chairman Mao Zedong stated that Korean comrades helped the Chinese counterparts whenever the latter was in trouble. Zhu De, commander of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, the friendship sealed in blood between China and Korea was a good example to be cherished deep in mind of the rising generations.
President Kim Il Sung, notwithstanding the difficult conditions that the Korean people had to build socialism after the Korean war (1950-1953) in constant showdown with the United States, the ringleader of the world imperialism, rendered positive assistance to the countries and peoples of the world in their struggle against imperialism and for independence.
At the outset of the 1960s the United States created the Cuban Missile Crisis in an attempt to crush the Cuban revolution in its bud. The President saw to it that the DPRK expressed full support to and solidarity with the Cuban people and sent all kinds of assistance to them. True to his intention, staff members of the DPRK Embassy and Koreans studying in Cuba prepared themselves for the fight against the US with arms and in the same trench with the Cuban people.
When the Tonkin Gulf Incident was triggered off in August 1964, the President ensured that the DPRK gave selfless assistance to the Vietnamese people struggling against the aggression of the US. He had pilots of the Korean People’s Army dispatched to the Vietnamese front and millions of military uniforms and other materials sent. Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh said that President Kim Il Sung was the saviour who helped Vietnam heart and soul and his real brother.
Out of his noble obligation of internationalism President Kim Il Sung assisted not only Vietnamese but also Cambodian and Laotian people fighting against the aggression of the US, and Egyptian, Syrian and other Arab people struggling against Zionism.
He also clarified orientations and ways for the peoples of Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Namibia and other countries in Africa who were engaged in national liberation struggle and rendered all possible aid to them, helping them usher in a new era of freedom and independence in Africa, once called the Dark Continent. Sam Nujoma, first president of the Republic of Namibia, praised that his country owed its independence to President Kim Il Sung and the latter was the great teacher of the Namibian revolution. President Samora Moises Machel of Mozambique, saying that as the great hero Comrade Kim Il Sung showed them the road ahead, the Mozambican people could greet the liberation free from the slavery lot, shouted in admiration that he extended thanks, the thanks of the ancestors together, to the President from the bottom of their heart.

Two decades have passed since President Kim Il Sung passed away, but he is always remembered by the progressive peoples of the world as the paradigm of noble internationalism.

“Aim High!”
“Aim High!” means what it says that one must cherish far-reaching ideas. It implies a noble and profound idea that national independence should be achieved at any cost by fighting through generations and a new society whose masters are the people should be built.
The idea of “Aim High!” was advanced by Kim Hyong Jik (1894-1926), an outstanding leader of the Korean anti-Japanese national liberation movement.
Kim Hyong Jik was born of a patriotic and poor peasant family at Mangyongdae, Pyongyang, on July 10, 1894.
At that time dark clouds of national ruin hung heavily over Korea due to the aggression of the Japanese imperialism. Japan that fought wars against China (1894-1895) and Russia (1904-1905) to gain control of the Korean peninsula finally occupied it militarily in 1905.
Kim Hyong Jik, who was born and grew up in such circumstances, embarked on the road of struggle to liberate the country in his early days and accomplished the extraordinary achievements for the anti-Japanese national liberation movement in Korea.
After making careful preparations for a long time, he formed on March 23, 1917 the Korean National Association that was the largest anti-Japanese underground revolutionary organization at home and abroad at that time.
The Korean National Association was a secret organization which aimed at achieving national independence and establishing a truly modern state through the efforts of the unified Korean nation. The KNA, with the idea of “Aim High!” as its guiding idea, formed its branches in the vast area and conducted various forms of activities including the enlightenment of the masses and education, thus laying a solid mass foundation of the anti-Japanese movement and giving strong impetus to the anti-Japanese struggle on a nationwide scale.
While seeking a way ahead for the development of the Korean anti-Japanese national liberation movement, Kim Hyong Jik confirmed that a proletarian revolution in which the masses of the people should rise up with arms in hand and fight the enemy was the only correct way to achieve independence of the country and freedom and liberation of the people. He thus made public a policy of shifting the anti-Japanese national liberation movement in Korea from the nationalist movement to a proletarian revolution and clarified the tasks and ways for its implementation.
He selected patriotic young people of proletariat origin and trained them into military cadres, while ideologically remolding the commanding officers and the rank and file of the existing armed organizations so as to turn their ranks into an armed force of workers and peasants that could carry out the proletarian revolution. Along with this, he worked hard to achieve the unity and cohesion of the organizations engaged in the anti-Japanese independence movement. Thanks to his efforts the armed units and the organizations of the anti-Japanese movement, which had been engrossed in a scramble for power, rejecting and jealously regarding each other, were united with one another and worked hand in hand.
Under energetic activities of Kim Hyong Jik, the anti-Japanese national liberation movement in Korea was directed towards the proletarian revolution to realize the interests of the un-propertied masses on the basis of an advanced idea and through armed activities by relying on their strength.
What was important in his revolutionary activities was patriotic and revolutionary education movement.
Looking far ahead into the future of the country, he set up schools wherever he went and devoted himself to the work of training successors to the revolution. He paid particular attention to educating his sons so that they could carry forward the struggle for national liberation from generation to generation.
Kim Hyong Jik, who burnt his heart and soul for national liberation and freedom and emancipation of the people, passed away owing to his sick health from the aftereffects of the terrible torture of the Japanese imperialists and the revolutionary struggle, on June 5, 1926.
On his deathbed he left the following injunction to his sons.
“I am departing without attaining my aim. But I believe in you. You must not forget that you belong to the country and the people. You must win back your country at all costs even if your bones are broken and your bodies are torn apart.”
The national liberation, his lifelong wish, was brilliantly realized by President Kim Il Sung.
The President created the Juche idea and the Songun idea by embodying the noble idea of “Aim High!” to illumine the path of the Korean revolution and waged the 20-year-long arduous anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, thus accomplishing the historic cause of national liberation and building the people-centred socialism on this land.
The idea of “Aim High!” of Kim Hyong Jik is being carried forward from century to century.
Inheriting the idea and cause of President Kim Il Sung, Chairman Kim Jong Il upheld the banner of Songun, turned Korea into an invincible power that nobody dares challenge and opened up a new era of building a thriving socialist country. At present, under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Un, the country is making rapid progress in the building of a civilized socialist nation where people enjoy happiness to their heart’s content.
Kim Hyong Jik’s idea of “Aim High!” will shine forever.

KIM JONG UN INSPECTS UNIT 1016 OF KPA AIR AND ANTI-AIR FORCE
Pyongyang, March 9 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and first chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, inspected Unit 1016 of KPA Air and Anti-Air Force honored with the Title of O Jung Hup-led 7th Regiment.
He, to begin with, went round the technically updated wind-solar power station of the unit to learn in detail about its operation. Feasting his eyes on the wind-power generator and solar panels in many rows, he said that still fresh in his memory was his visit to the station accompanying leader Kim Jong Il in November 2011.
The wind-solar power station of the unit is the legacy of Kim Jong Il and the electric wires extending from the electric transmission network reflect loving care and warm solicitude bestowed by him upon airpersons, he said.
The natural power station of the unit is an electricity production base and, at the same time, a base for education as it conveys the benevolence of Kim Jong Il who spared nothing for airpersons, he noted, stressing the need to spruce up the power station associated with the loving care of Kim Jong Il and meticulously organize the work for putting its operation on a normal footing so that his leadership exploits may be glorified for eternity.
Saying he was very pleased to see the nice power station, he highly praised KPA Unit 6556 and officials, scientists and technicians of the State Academy of Sciences for making a positive contribution to successfully constructing the station to be proud of through army-people coordinated operation. He extended thanks to them.
It is important to conduct a dynamic drive to widely use natural energy including wind, solar ray and geotherm in order to solve the electricity problem of the country, he said, before indicating tasks and ways to do so.
Then he inspected the unit.
He went round the monument to on-the-spot guidance of the peerlessly great persons of Mt. Paektu and the service personnel's hall. President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, with deep insight into the position and importance of the air force in defending of the country, devoted everything to the development of the air force, Kim Jong Un said, adding that the course of development of the air force of Juche is the history of leadership provided by them with tireless devotion and great efforts.
Praising the unit for building the hall as intended by the Workers' Party of Korea, he said, underlining the need to intensify the education in the greatness of the leaders, Kim Jong Il's patriotism, faith, anti-imperialist class education and moral education in order to fully prepare the airpersons as death-defying corps in the sky. The short-cut to preparing the KPA as the invincible revolutionary Paektusan army is to take hold on the four strategic lines, three tasks and five-point education for bolstering up military muscle indicated by the party as the three major thrusts, he added.
To build well the units associated with the leadership history of the President and Kim Jong Il and add eternal brilliance to their undying exploits should be a starting point and beginning of all affairs in the KPA including military and political affairs and supply service and then it is possible to turn the KPA into the strongest army in the idea and faith, he noted.
He went round the flight drill room of the unit and flying lecture room of the Second Squadron to learn in detail about the combat and political training.
Watching the airpersons skillfully controlling the equipment for piloting with the help of computers, he said it is good to have a lot of such drills and it is important to undergo effective training, while letting all airpersons to increase requirements for properly keeping their positions in the air. He gave an instruction to further modernize the drill equipment.
He said that in order to prepare the airpersons to successfully perform their combat mission any time and under any unfavorable circumstances through drills, it is necessary to arrange well the hall of flight drill in all flying units and steadily raise the quality of the drill.
He went round bedrooms of the airpersons, washroom, bean store, mess hall, kitchen, greenhouse and mushroom cultivation room to take warm care of the living of the airpersons with paternal love. On this day he looked round fighters of the unit including fighter No. 109 seen by the President.
He stressed that the Air Force should take the lead in defending the country during the days of battles by managing in a more responsible manner the fighters associated with leadership exploits of the President and Kim Jong Il.
He had a photo session with combat pilots and other service personnel after expressing belief that airpersons of the unit would undergo intensive trainings to be always combat ready under the slogan "We wait for only the party's order for sorties!" so that they may be ready to fly once an order is issued by the Party Central Committee.
Before leaving, he asked commanding officers of the unit to convey the cosmetics and foodstuff he had brought with him to airpersons' wives as well as his congratulations to them on the March 8 International Women's Day.

He was accompanied by Hwang Pyong So, Jo Kyong Chol, Ri Pyong Chol and Son Chol Ju.

Showcase for 5 000-Year History of the Korean Nation
Pyongyang Folk Park was newly set up. Covering over 200 hectres and located at the foot of Mt. Taesong in the capital city of Pyongyang, the park is divided into several areas–those of general history education, historical relics exhibition, contemporary times, folklore village, folk games–where are displayed the cultural assets and relics created by Koreans in the different ages of their development, and contemporary creations in their real sizes or in miniature.
Long history, splendid culture and unique customs
The Korean nation has 5 000-year-long history, culture and beautiful traditions and customs unique to it.
This is clearly illustrated by the nine large mural paintings in the general history education area. The murals deal with the territories of the ancient states in their respective thriving periods, and their founding fathers, famous generals and persons, struggles against foreign invasion, scientific and cultural creative activities, and customs. Models of weapons, monuments and towers characteristic of various periods of the nation’s development are erected on both sides of the central road of the park.
The area for historical relics exhibition provides a clear glimpse of the primitive, ancient and middle ages. Displayed there are the replicas of the Komunmoru Site in Sangwon County and earliest type of man in Korea, and the sculptures of two-horn rhinoceros, flat-antler deer and mammoth, and straw-thatched huts, all representative of the early period of the Paleolithic era. Also exhibited there are dolmens and the miniature of pyramid-type mausoleum of King Tangun, the founding father of Ancient Joson and of the Korean nation. They illustrate that Ancient Joson (early 30th century B.C.-108 B.C.) was a strong slave state.
On display in the section of middle age are many remains and relics including the mural paintings in tombs in the period of Koguryo (277 B.C.-A.D. 668) that were registered as world heritage. What draws particular attention is the mural paintings in the tomb of King Kogugwon. The mural depicting the king dealing with state affairs and that portraying a long procession are masterpieces which are typical murals in the middle age of Korea and of great significance in the world history of fine arts. This area also includes Sokgul Grotto in Kyongju, one of the three treasures in the East, the 66-metre-high pagoda in Kumgang Temple, Pigyokjinchonroe, the first delayed-fuse demolition bomb, turtle-shaped ship, the first iron-clad warship in the world, udometer and Chomsongdae observatory.
Covering scores of hectares, the folklore village area is more impressive. There visitors can see many structures which have been built on the principle of fidelity to the historical truth. Among them are a part of a fortified wall and government office building and Kyongdang school where warriors were trained in Koguryo period, a royal palace in the period of Palhae, a relics exhibition of Koryo period (918-1392) and a 99-bay house of aristocrats. The Korean Folk Museum is housed in the government office building of Koguryo period and the royal palace of Palhae so as to help visitors understand the traditions and beautiful manners and traits of the Korean nation in a short time. There are also houses representative of provinces in the period of the Feudal Joson Dynasty (1392-1910), where special dishes of provinces concerned are served.
Epitome of Modern Korea
Modern history occupies a particularly brilliant position in the 5 000-year-long history of the Korean nation.
Entering the area for the contemporary times visitors can see the magnificent Mt. Paektu regarded as the ancestral mountain in Korea. Mt. Paektu is the centre of the anti-Japanes war organized by Kim Il Sung (1912-1994), founding father of socialist Korea, to win back the lost country. In other words, contemporary times originated in the mountain. It is the mountain in which Kim Jong Il (1942-2011), who ushered in a new heyday of prosperity, was born. There visitors can see Jong Il Peak, named after him, and his native home.
This area is divided into two sections, one dedicated to monuments and the other to structures, where the monumental edifices built by the Korean people are exhibited.
The former section represents in an intensive way the modern history of Korea. The Arch of Triumph is a monument to the exploits Kim Il Sung performed to defeat the Japanese imperialists and achieve the liberation of Korea (August 1945). Also on display are the miniatures of the Party Founding Memorial Tower built to glorify the history of the Workers’ Party of Korea that leads the Korean people to victory and glory, the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Memorial Tower built to eulogize the Korean people who defeated the United States which boasted of “being strongest” and defended their sovereignty, the Tower of the Juche Idea, which symbolizes the immortality of the idea, eternal guiding ideology in the era of independence, and the Three Charters for National Reunification Memorial Tower which inspires the visitors with confidence that the earnest desire of the Korean people for national reunification will surely be realized.
Exhibited in the latter section are monumental structures permeated with the creative wisdom of the Korean people. Among them are the Korean Revolution Museum, Grand People’s Study House, Okryu Restaurant, Chollima Statue, Pyongyang Grand Theatre, Ice Rink, Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, People’s Palace of Culture, 8-kilometre-long West Sea Barrage, 105-storeyed Ryugyong Hotel, and parachute-shaped May Day Stadium, all representative of the different stages of modern history of Korea. They were built in only dozens of years under the leadership of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.
In a nutshell, Pyongyang Folk Park vividly showcases how the 5 000-year-long history of Korea has been created and glorified.

Kim Jong Un Inspects Pyongyang City Home for Aged under Construction
Pyongyang, March 6 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Un, first secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, first chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission and supreme commander of the Korean People's Army, gave field guidance to the Pyongyang City Home for the Aged under construction.
Accompanying him were Hwang Pyong So, Choe Thae Bok, O Su Yong, Ri Jae Il, Jo Yong Won and Kim Yo Jong.
The construction of the Pyongyang City Home for the Aged was proposed by Kim Jong Un, who said it should be a social trait, a habit of the whole country forming a big family, to look after those persons who are to be put under public care. And he solved all matters arising in the construction, from designing to supply of materials.
He recalled with deep emotion that President Kim Il Sung, together with leader Kim Jong Il, visited an old people's home in Mandal-ri, Sungho County in May 1948 when he was busy paving an untrodden path for nation-building and showed deep care for the inmates' living conditions, including quilts and bowls, saying that the state would take warm care of the aged.
Under the paternal love of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il the "DPRK Law on the Protection for the Aged" was adopted in the country and the Central Committee of the Federation for the Care of the Elderly of Korea organized and the Party and the state have wholly taken charge of aged people's health and life, he noted.
He said that to build the home for the aged well is a very important work in correctly implementing the Workers' Party of Korea's policy for the care of the elderly and fully displaying its validity and vitality.
Going round different parts of the home under construction, he learned in detail about its building operation and gave important instructions for the construction.
It is the constant demand of our Party to firmly preserve the Juche character and national identity in construction, he said, stressing that the exterior and interior of the home should be laid out to sustain the national character and emit the strong national flavor.
He added that a work should be organized meticulously to provide furniture and utensils needed for operation of the home and produce good uniforms for its employees.
The home is in an excellent location the Party valued, he said, stressing the need to build it into another model edifice in the era of the Workers' Party, an embodiment of the Party's love for the people.
The Pyongyang City Home for the Aged should be built as a prototype equipped with all conditions for its inmates to lead a happy life free from any cares and worries so that such homes can be constructed in localities with it as a model, he said.
He expressed belief that the soldier-builders would successfully complete the construction of the home by late June, true to the intention of the Party Central Committee, and thus honorably enter the venue of significant grand festival celebrating the 70th anniversaries of founding of the WPK and national liberation. -0-

Korean Women of Today
Women in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea are granted high social status.
Following are typical examples of their social standings.
Woman Deputy
Kim Hwa Suk, chairwoman of Sadong District Cooperative Farm Management Committee in Pyongyang, started her social life as a farmer of the Rihyon Cooperative Farm, Sadong District in the suburbs of Pyongyang. She is a deputy to the Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK, that is a member of parliament.
One September day in 1977 when she was working as a youth workteam leader at the farm President Kim Il Sung visited it. He was satisfied with the young girl’s laudable deed and gave detailed instructions on how to increase the grain output.
As instructed by the President she did a good farming every year to make a rich harvest. Later she was promoted to chairwomanship of the management board of the farm and elected a deputy to the Supreme People’s Assembly.
For over 20 years she was reelected the deputy to the Supreme People’s Assembly for five sessions and has been working at the current post since 1993.
She was elected a representative for the Third Conference of the Workers’ Party of Korea in 2010. She participated in the national meetings including the national agricultural congress and took the floor, and also in other international meetings as a women representative.
Hero Manageress
Jang Ok Son is a manageress of the Fruit Processing Factory in Hoechang County, South Phyongan Province. Her factory is an ordinary one in the DPRK.
Originally, her factory was staffed with some 20 employees, and most of them were women. They were producing only a few items with several outdated machines in a small, one-storey building.
Jang Ok Son initiated a project of expanding the capacity of the factory and made positive endeavour for its realization, thus increasing the production capacity six folds in a short period and newly setting up a line of producing children’s foodstuff. Entering the new century, she pushed forward with the projects to further boost the production and put management activities on an informatic and scientific footing. Now a small local factory has been completely facelifted.
Jang Ok Son was awarded high state decorations and citations including the Labour Hero for having long discharged her duty with credit.
People’s Athlete
Kim Kum Ok was born into an ordinary worker’s family.
Since her childhood, she was very fond of running. The state found out her little talent and brought her up into a marathon runner. Feeling grateful to the country, Kum Ok determined to glorify the motherland by winning gold medals.
She made strenuous efforts with this determination and became winners in the Asian Marathon Championships held in 2006 and 2008 respectively and other international games.
She won another gold medal in the 14th Asian Marathon Championships.
Kim Jong Un, leader of the DPRK, spoke highly of her for becoming Asian marathon champion three times.
The state conferred on her the title of People’s Athlete for having won gold medals in several games of marathon that is an iconic sport.
Mother Hero
Ri Pyong Hui, who lives in Wonsan, Kangwon Province which is situated on the east coast of the DPRK, is a mother of ten children.
She is a plain-looking but tough-minded woman. Whenever she is asked how she had as many children as ten and if she had planned to do so from the beginning, she answers: to be honest, I had no thought of having ten. But I realized that it is an important matter relating to the future of the country to have and rear children as many as I can. So I made up my mind to perform my duty as a woman by giving birth to many children and bringing them up into able personnel of the country.
Now three of her children are doing military service in the Korean People’s Army.
She took part as a delegate in the Fourth National Meeting of Mothers held in Pyongyang in November 2012. She said in the meeting that she would do good things more for the motherland that highly appreciates mothers and bestows on them love and trust.
She was conferred the title of Labour Hero for having reared many children.
Masikryong Ski Resort
The Masik Pass which links the eastern part to the western part of central Korea was little known to the world in the past, but is now on many people’s lips as a world-class ski resort appeared there.
Covering an area of 1 412 hectares, the ski resort has ten ski slopes with an average length of 1 700 metres, 5 000 metres at the longest. Masikryong Hotel, a ski rental, other lodging houses and large-scale facilities for skiing and management have been established in a characteristic way to blend well with mountainous environment and utility of structures. A heliport, skate rental, patrol stations for ski slopes, ropeway lines running from 600 to 2 000 metres, and snow cannons are found there.
Visitors who want to ski on low slopes can use travelators, and those who hope to ski from the top of Taehwa Peak 1 360m above sea level ride ropeway lines and snowmobiles.
Cameras and communication facilities are organically combined to monitor ropeway lines, ski slopes, power supply and weather for the safety of the visitors; a central control room offers real-time monitoring of the whole ski resort through the CCTV images; there are also first-aid stations for emergency cases.
Decorative braziers with a design of flaring fire and rubber pads on which people stand in ski boots are installed at nature-friendly Masikryong Hotel, blending harmoniously with the idyllic scenery of the mountainous area, and other pavilions uniquely built in various places.
When it snows on the summit of Taehwa Peak, it rains at its foot. Four reservoirs are built for snow cannons in this case.
The ski resort is also an unparalleled tourist attraction for its beautiful mountain scenery and the spectacular sight of a rising sun from the East Sea of Korea enjoyed on the summit of Taehwa Peak. It is so thickly wooded with oak and pine trees and other broad- and needle-leaf trees that fresh air lingers around the pass all the year round. There grow innumerable species of edible herbs and wild fruits including bracken, royal fern, wild vine and tara vine. A convenient road network leads the visitors from the Masikryong Ski Resort to other tourist destinations of Myongsasimni and Songdowon Beach, scenic spots along the east coast, and Mt. Kumgang, the world-famous beauty spot.
The credit goes to the wise leadership of Kim Jong Un.
He proposed building a ski resort so that the Korean people could enjoy a happy life with nothing to envy in the world and made public an appeal, Let Us Usher In a Fresh Heyday on All the Fronts of Socialist Construction by Creating the Masikryong Speed. In hearty response to his appeal, the soldier-builders performed a miracle of building a ski resort and thus carried out his order to complete its project without fail within 2013.
In those days he visited the construction sites on steep slopes several times to encourage the soldier-builders with great affection and trust and take necessary steps to finish the project at an earliest possible date. Whenever visiting the Masikryong area, he instructed in detail that all the structures there should sustain its local features while attaining perfection on the principle of ensuring convenience first and aesthetics next. He visited again the ski resort nearing completion and rode a chairlift in running trials to the summit of Taehwa Peak, saying that he should go round all the courses to be used by the people. Looking at the Korean leader sitting on a chairlift the world people were greatly moved, because it has so far been little known that a head of state rode a chairlift on trial for the safety of the people.
The Korean leader, endowed with ennobling affection for people, looked round the completed ski resort and took new measures to build more lodgings and service facilities so that youth and schoolchildren across the country can go camping there in winter for skiing, skating and sleighing.

The Masikryong Ski Resort which has newly thrust into the international limelight will attract more and more people.
Kim Jong Un's Report at March, 2013 Plenary Meeting of C.C., WPK
Respected Kim Jong Un, supreme leader of our Party and the people made a historic report at the March 2013 plenary meeting of the WPK.
The content of the report is as follows.
We've met here today for a plenary meeting of the Party CC to discuss and decide on an important strategic line for accelerating the victory of the Juche revolutionary cause that originated in Mt. Paektu, to satisfy the requirements of the present situation and revolutionary development.
Under the wise leadership of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il our revolution has covered the glorious road of victory, bravely overcoming worst ever known adversities and challenges in the long and rigorous struggle against the allied forces of imperialism.
Our Army men and the people have been confidently dashing forward to final victory under the Party's leadership. Frightened by this soaring spirit, the enemies run wild in their scheme to isolate and stifle our Republic by mobilizing all political, economic and military strength. This has led the situation of our country to a brink of war.
The important task facing us today is to foil the enemy's machination to strangulate our Republic and thus win decisive victory in the frontal confrontation with the U.S. and add luestre to the honor of great Paektusan nation which no one dare pounce upon.
To meet the requirement of the prevailing situation and the development of revolution, the Party Central Committee puts forward a new strategic line on parallel development of the economy and nuclear arms build-up.
Our Party's line on parallel growth of the economy and nuclear arms build-up is a strategic line that intends to strengthen and develop the nuclear arms bequeathed to us by the great General Kim Jong Il so as to fortify our defenses like an iron wall while directing more efforts to economic construction to build a powerful and prospering country where our people will enjoy the benefits of socialist wealth and glory to the full.
The parallel development of the two is an inevitable demand of the created situation.
Taking to good account of the self-defensive war deterrence secured by life-long efforts of the great Generalissimos, we intended to focus on economic construction so that our people could enjoy the benefits of socialist wealth and glory, no longer having to put up with any hunger. But a new obstacle has cropped up on our way ahead.
Last December we successfully launched an earth satellite for peaceful purpose. But the U.S. and forces of its followers, wrangling about our satellite launch, invented an outrageous "resolution of sanction" of the UNSC, outlawing an independent state's lawful right to satellite launch. What a diabolic act of hostility.
The created situation compelled us to conduct the 3rd underground nuclear test as a link of our practical countermeasures to defend the country's sovereignty and security.
Things having come this far, the U.S. and other hostile forces, thrown into a greater frenzy, cooked up a more high-handed "resolution of sanction", and staged joint military exercises Key Resolve and Foal Eagle to light the fuse to a nuclear war by involving huge armed forces of aggression.
Our Army and the people, rallied firm around the Party Central Committee, rose as one man in a battle of all-out confrontation against the U.S. to answer a war of aggression with a just, great war of national reunification. The enemies, panic-stricken by our extremely strong counter-measures, were too stunned to attempt any first try at us. But they have not given up the ambition to stifle our Republic.
Our peaceful efforts for economic construction and for better livelihood of the people had to be accompanied by fierce struggle against our enemies, and the U.S. scheme for stifling our Republic, the scheme to destroy our nuclear deterrence and our socialist system by strangling us through tightened sanction, will be prolonged.
The U.S. fears most our nuclear deterrence, now smaller in size, lighter in weight, and more multifarious. It is making its last-ditch effort as it knows when we, possessor of nukes, attain economic prosperity, its hostile policy toward Korea will end in failure.
The U.S. hostile policy toward Korea has become ever more vicious of late. This can be accounted for by a shift of the U.S. strategic center for world domination to Asia-Pacific region and change in the target of its preferential strike, it being to Korea.
That's why the US, picking up a quarrel with us for our peaceful launch of satellite, deliberately aggravated tension and, making it as an excuse, shipped in a huge armed force to conduct large-scale joint military exercises incessantly. The U.S. aim is to put us without nukes and overthrow our system by hook or by crook.
Recent tragic events in many countries show that a nation cannot defend its independence and dignity, nor can it bring happiness and prosperity to its people when it is not strong enough.
Never should we forget lessons of some Balkan and Middle Eastern countries: They pinning hope on big powers, failed to build up self-defensive national defenses and abandoned their war deterrence, unable to withstand the imperialist pressure and appeasement, falling a prey to imperialist aggression at last.
Our enemies blackmailed us, saying if we do not give up nukes we cannot attain economic progress, and tried to lure us, saying if we take another choice, they would help us live well off.
We must hold a firmer grip on our nuke treasured sword to open a broad avenue to become a strong and prospering nation.
It is a lawful demand of the development of our revolution to make a parallel progress in economic construction and nuclear arms build-up.
Our Songun revolutionary cause reflecting the life-long devotion of the great Generalissimos now enters into a period of new historic change.
We should boost the might of Songun in every way and, relying on it, build the most powerful nation, a people's paradise where all people enjoy the happiest life.
Steadfast is our Party's resolve to make our people enjoy the happiest and affluent life thanks to Songun as they have steadily traveled only one road following the Party despite of all hardships.
The efforts to develop the economy and improve the people's livelihood can be successful only when they are guaranteed by strong military power, nuclear forces.
We should achieve the people's welfare and prosperity of the great Paektusan nation by pushing ahead with the struggle for national defense and the building of an economic power simultaneously in the spirit of the conquerors of space and the mettle of the performers of the high-level nuclear test.
Building up the economy in parallel with the nuclear forces is an urgent task to totally reject the foreign forces' domination and interference and accomplish earlier the historic cause of national reunification, the greatest desire of our nation.
Our nuke is a precious wealth common to our nation that guarantees the prosperity of a reunified country forever.
The strategic line on building up the economy and nuclear forces abreast is a correct line to steadily boost our war deterrence and further accelerate the economic construction and thus brilliantly accomplish the cause of building of a powerful socialist state.
Our nuclear forces are a reliable war deterrent and guarantee to safeguard the sovereignty of the nation.
Over the past 70 years since the appearance of nukes in the world the cold war has been kept up for a long time on a worldwide scale and there have been many wars, big and small, but the nuke powers have not undergone military aggression.
No matter where the aggressors and the bases of aggression may be on the globe, no aggressor can commit a reckless attack if one is firmly equipped with the ability to make a precision strike with nukes and the greater and stronger the nuclear strike ability, the greater is the deterrent of aggression.
In case of our country in particular, our opponent is the U.S., the greatest nuke power in the world that is inflicting constant nuclear threat on us. That’s why we should beef up the nuclear forces steadily both in quality and quantity.
A powerful nuclear force ensures peace and prosperity and the happy life of the people.
The new strategic line is a realistic line to obtain maximum results in the economic construction and defense buildup of the country to suit our actual conditions.
Now the U.S. and its following forces are scheming to draw our country into arms race and thus lay an obstacle to our efforts for the building of an economic power and the enhancement of the people's standard of living.
The new line makes it possible to direct big efforts to the economic construction and the improvement of the people's welfare while further boosting national defense with less expenses without increasing defense expenditures.
We are possessed of the firm atomic energy industry provided by the great Generalissimos with their far-sighted wisdom, outstanding leadership and iron pluck and also inexhaustible uranium resources.
The new line is a reasonable line to beef up the nuclear forces in reliance on our own atomic energy industry and, at the same time, to settle the shortage of power; It is a correct line to fully realize our Party's plan and intention to cope with the prevailing situation positively and enable the people to enjoy a happy life without any worry.
The new strategic line on building up the economy and the nuclear forces abreast is a continuation and development of the line on simultaneously building up the economy and defenses advanced by President Kim Il Sung and thoroughly embodied by leader Kim Jong Il.
At the 5th plenary meeting of the 4th Central Committee of the WPK in December 1962 President Kim Il Sung set forth the line on simultaneously carrying on the economic and defense construction for the first time in history and advanced the revolutionary slogan reading "Rifle in one hand and hammer or sickle in the other!"
As the President clarified the line of simultaneous construction and provided the independent national economy and self-reliant defense power, we have been able to firmly defend the revolutionary achievements in a great upheaval in which socialism was frustrated in many countries.
Leader Kim Jong Il led the fierce anti-U.S. nuclear confrontation to victory with his prominent Songun politics and thus accomplished the great cause of possessing nukes, thereby defending the Juche-based socialism and laying a firm basis to leap to the building of a thriving nation.
Today we can do everything as we wish in accordance with our confidence, will and pluck while resolutely smashing the U.S. and its following forces' vicious moves to isolate and stifle the DPRK only thanks to the powerful nuclear deterrent built up by the great Generalissimos with their lifelong efforts.
Their services to turn our country into a nuke power of the world will shine forever in the history of the nation.
The Party's line on increasing the nation's defense capacity with the nuclear forces as its pivot and accelerating the building of an economic power is a treasured sword to bring earlier the building of a powerful socialist state and the country's reunification; It is a banner to safeguard national sovereignty and dignity generation after generation.
The new strategic line is an embodiment of our Party's steadfast determination and will to accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche along the road of independence, the road of Songun and the socialist road pioneered and developed by the great Generalissimos.
We should hold fast to the Party's line on implementing the economic and nuclear forces construction abreast and carry through it perfectly.
It is the most important and urgent task facing our Party to accelerate the building of an economic power and radically improve the people's standard of living.
It was a lifelong wish of great Generalissimo Kim Jong Il to build an economic giant on this land and make the people live so well that they have nothing to envy in the world.
We should speed up the building of an economic power and rapidly enhance the people's standard of living as our Generalissimos wished.
In order to be an economic giant it is necessary to decisively shore up the pilot sectors of the national economy and the sectors of basic industries. Only when the electric-power, coal-mining and metallurgical industries and rail transport can afford to go ahead, the whole of national economy can make a vigorous headway. A breakthrough to victory in the present drive should be made in the fields of the pilot sectors of the national economy and the sectors of basic industries as befitting the scouts and pioneers in making the country an economic giant.
A new turn should be made in the fields of agriculture and light industry, the major front for building an economic power.
We should attain the grain yield target set forth by the Party by increasing the state investment in agriculture and do farming on scientific and technological basis, as required by the Juche method of farming.
In hearty response to the Party's call for astonishing success in bettering the people's living, the officials and workers of the light industry should operate light-industrial factories in full capacity and thus increase the output of high quality consumer goods favored by people.
We should bring the national economy on to a higher level of Juche-orientation and modernization and also develop the national economy onto a knowledge-based economy by raising the flames of industrial revolution in the new century.
Now the level and speed of development of economy and society are regulated by the development of science and technology. Therefore, an economic giant we are going to build should become a knowledge-based economic giant whose motive power is science and technology.
We should make great efforts to put the sectors of basic industries including metallurgical and chemical industries on the Juche-oriented base by home-producing raw, fuel and other materials urgently needed for building an economic giant.
We should form groups for new technological development in all fields of the national economy and organically link science and technology with the economy and thus modernize factories and enterprises.
It is important to exert our efforts to development of space science and technology in order to develop and launch more diverse application satellites including communication satellite.
In order to bring about a turn in building an economic giant it is necessary to improve guidance and management for economy.
The state economic organs including the Cabinet should set up practical strategies for economic development and goals of different fields and different stages and thoroughly implement them. They should organize well production and guidance for a new upsurge through effective use of the existing economic foundation.
It is necessary to research and complete the Korean-style method of economic management to meet the requirement of present reality.
Economic management of our style embodying the Juche idea should be a socialist way of enterprise management – firmly maintaining the socialist ownership of the means of production all the enterprises should independently and creatively carry out their business activities under the unified guidance of the state and the masses of producers should perform their responsibilities and roles in production and management as masters.
We should make foreign trade multilateral and diversified so that a favorable condition for building an economic giant may be provided, free from sanctions and blockades of hostile forces.
We should build tourist destinations and attractions in different parts of the country including areas around Wonsan and Mt. Chilbo for tourism while building economic development areas fitting practical conditions of different provinces for peculiar development.
As the imperialists persist in their nuclear threat to us, we should hold fast to the line of parallel growth of the economy and nuclear arms build-up and further augment our nuclear deterrence.
Our nuclear deterrence is a means of justice for defending the sovereignty of the country and the nation and safeguarding peace against war. When we have a strong nuclear deterrence can we focus on the economic construction and the improvement of people's living without any fear of attack by the enemy however strong he may be. The munitions industry should make another big stride to keep the honor of the country growing as a matchless nuclear power in the world.
More nukes, more accurate and smaller in size, and more carrier rockets must be put out and more advance be made in nuke technology so as to develop more powerful nukes.
Putting the industry of atomic energy on update and scientific base is the key to increasing the production of nuclear substances and raise their qualities for development of more minimized and lighter nuclear weapons.
Through the dynamic struggle to push back the frontiers of science, CNC technology and unmanned technology should be introduced in equipment and production processes in the field of atomic energy industry.
While developing the atomic energy industry on a firm ultra-modern base of science and technology to meet the demand of the new century we should develop independent atomic electric power industry to make up for acute shortage of electricity.
The People's Army should enhance the pivotal role of nuclear forces in carrying out the strategy of war deterrence and in executing war strategy and winding up the combat readiness of the nuclear force.
We are going to legalize our eternal grip on the nuke deterrence , a heritage of our great generalissimo Kim Jong Il.
We should boldly conduct external activities with the dignity and might of a nuclear power to create an external condition and environment favorable for building a thriving nation while further enhancing the international prestige of our Party and maintaining firm independent stand.
In order to expose the reactionary nature and unjustness of the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK, the root cause driving us to nuclear arms build-up, and convince the people of the correctness and inevitability of our choice and the line of our Party, the external activities should be positively conducted so as to prevail over more of our supporters and sympathizers.
We, a responsible nuclear possessor, will strive for peace and security of Asia and other parts of the world and honestly carry out our duty of non-nuclear proliferation we assume before the world community and thus contribute to creating a nuclear free world.
All the officials, party members and working people should turn out in the dynamic struggle to implement the Party's line on parallel growth of the economy and nuclear arms build-up with the invincible faith and fighting spirit and thus hasten the building of a thriving socialist state.
It is the revolutionary spirit of our army and people cultivated by the great Generalissimos and their tradition of struggle to confidently go along the road taken by themselves with firm faith in justice and victory of their cause in any complex situation and any difficult tasks.

Let all of us firmly unite around the Central Committee of the WPK and dynamically struggle to carry on the economic construction and nuclear arms build-up simultaneously in requirement of the development of revolution and thus accelerate our final victory.
