CHARACTERISTICS OF KIM JONG UN’S POLITICS

What are the characteristics of the politics pursued by Kim Jong Un who leads socialist Korea along the road of victory, remaining unflinching amid the challenges from allied imperialist forces led by the US and upheavals of history?

First, his is a politics refined through his philosophical thoughts. This is clearly illustrated by his first open address which drew the attention of the world in April 2012.

In the address he said:

“The geopolitical position of our country is the same as ever, but the weak country of yesterday which was trodden underfoot as a theatre where the big powers fought to expand the sphere of their influence, has now been turned into a proud political and military power and our people are demonstrating their dignity as an independent people whom no one dares to provoke.

“This miraculous transformation in the destiny of our nation is no fortuitous event which resulted from the passage of time but an inevitable historical outcome brought about by the great President Kim Il Sung and General Kim Jong Il, who pioneered and led the Songun revolution.”

It can be said that this statement is based on his profound political analysis of Korea’s history and the reality of the international community that if a country is weak in its military power, it cannot defend its independence, right to existence, and will end up falling victim to the imperialists as well as on his conclusive political judgement that as long as there remains imperialism, the only way to safeguard the sovereignty and dignity of the country and nation is to direct great efforts to consolidating military power and realizing Songun politics.

Then he declared:

“The permanent strategy of our revolution and its final victory lie in marching straight along the road of independence, the road of Songun and the road of socialism, as indicated by President Kim Il Sung and General Kim Jong Il.”

His declaration shows the road socialist Korea should take. It is his political creed that as it has won one victory after another for several decades along the road of independence, Songun and socialism in the face of all trials and difficulties, his country will be ever victorious when it follows the road invariably.

“Single-hearted unity and invincible military might plus the industrial revolution in the new century together make a thriving socialist country.”

This proposition of his has also a profound meaning. As is recognized by the whole world, Korea is a politico-ideological power whose people and service personnel are united as one in their leader’s ideology and will and a military power with a strong military might fostered by Songun. It is his political ideal to make Korea a thriving socialist country by giving importance to science and technology and waging a forceful campaign to break through the cutting edge and, on this basis, capturing the target of building an economic giant.

Second, his politics is characterized by firm determination and staunch faith.

Developments before and after the country’s launch of Kwangmyongsong 3-2, an artificial earth satellite, in December 2012 are a clear testimony to this. The situation in and around the Korean peninsula was extremely serious due to the arbitrariness of the US and its vassal forces that made reckless attempt to check the launch, describing it as a missile launch. Nothing daunted, however, Kim Jong Un guided the launch at the launching site, demonstrating once again Korea’s will that it does what it is determined to do.

Ubiquitous in Korea, the slogan “Korean does what it is determined to do!” reflects the staunch faith of the country’s leader and unshakeable will of its people and service personnel to realize his determination without fail.

Firm is his resolve to build at the earliest date a civilized and thriving socialist country where all the dreams and ideal of the people are materialized, although the country’s economic situation is still difficult.

Under his guidance the country has recently built many monumental structures upholding the slogans of “Top and absolute priority to the people’s interests and convenience!” and “Everything for the people and everything by relying on them!” advanced by him. Typical examples are the Rungna People’s Recreation Ground, People’s Open-air Ice Rink, Breast Tumor Institute of the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital, Okryu Children’s Hospital, Ryugyong Dental Hospital, Changjon Street, Unha Scientists Street, Wisong Scientists Street, Munsu Water Park, Mirim Riding Club and Masikryong Ski Resort.

Kim Jong Un made painstaking efforts for their construction. According to materials made public, in 2012 alone he provided on-site guidance to their construction on about 140 occasions and examined 113 blueprints for the Munsu Water Park.

Third, his politics is characterized by its unpredictability and adroitness.

He throws the US into defensive in the ceaseless US-DPRK showdown by dint of his unfathomable and adroit tactics.

When the US waged a large-scale war exercise in south Korea, bringing dark clouds of nuclear war over the Korean peninsula, he unexpectedly visited the KPA post at Panmunjom on the Military Demarcation Line, to utter shock of the enemy. And he inspected KPA units defending islands on the frontier by a small wooden vessel. His limitless pluck and courage struck terror into the enemy’s hearts. His hard-line will to “counter provocation with an immediate counteroffensive, and a war of aggression with a war of justice for the country’s reunification” completely shattered the enemy’s will to ignite a war. It was made public that Korea made a plan to attack the US military bases in Guam, Hawaii and the US proper to cope with the reckless nuclear threats of the arrogant US.

The world is struck with admiration at the fact that Kim Jong Un, though young, holds the initiative in the US-DPRK showdown, knocking out of wits the veterans of the US which boasts of its long-standing experience in aggressive war.
